Jamu

Jama is a traditional drink from Bali that is used as a health tonic, and is easy to make at home. You may be wondering, "but why would Jamu be good for me?" Well, Jamu contains a blend of natural ingredients that have been used traditionally for their anti-inflammatory, immune and digestive properties.




Ingredients

  • 150g of fresh Tumeric Root (or 50g of powdered)

  • 4 Cups of Water

  • 40g of fresh Ginger Root

  • A pinch of powdered black pepper

  • Juice of 4 Lemons or Limes

  • 1 Tablespoon of Manuka or Raw Honey

  • 2 Tablespoons of Raw Honey


Directions

  1. Peel or scrub turmeric and ginger and then slice into 1cm pieces

  2. Add 4 cups of water, pepper, ginger and turmeric to a blender/food processor and blitz until combined and smooth

  3. Place the mixture into a pot and simmer for 20 mins, stirring regularly

  4. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 5 mins

  5. Add the honey and lemon OR lime juice and stir

  6. Allow to cool and then strain through a sieve and cloth (a new chux cloth works well) then bottle to store in the fridge for up to 7 days

  7. Can be enjoyed cold as a tonic or add to hot water and consume as a tea
